After watching the Man v Food Minneapolis episode, F could not get the Juicy Lucy burger out of his mind. Not being able to travel to Minneapolis to try the burger, he did the next best thing: plot and plan on how to reconstruct it.

I said I’d like to come back to try out more things on the menu, but I didn’t realise just how soon we would be back!
With the constant fantastic food that always seems to find its way into my stomach, the lack of exercise and a thin wallet, it seemed unlikely that we would have a big breakfast any time soon. Unlikely, but I guess not improbable… hence our fattiness on a sunny, but chilly Saturday morning.

Little did I know, my interest of the Southern cuisine started early watching American movies where people would order Pecan Pie or Cobbler from their local diner. Though it wasn’t until I watched Tropic Thunder, particularly Robert Downy Jr’s role as Kirk Lazarus (a white American Actor playing an African American Soldier), that cinched the deal to take on the the flavours of the south with his remarks about ‘cornbread’ and ‘crawfish’.

I think it was around December that I heard a little fleeting teaser that Taste of Sydney will be on.. soon. Last year’s Taste was so much fun, so I was pretty excited. How excited? As soon as I found out the menu was online, F and I had worked out what to order in a matter of mere minutes and mushed our choices together for an epic mini-gastronomic adventure. And this was about two weeks before our Saturday session haha.

Restaurant Balzac was busily buzzing on a Sunday night, with all of their tables on the ground floor full of customers and most of the tables on the first floor filled. I think it’s a testament to the great food served here by courteous and attentive wait staff.
This particular degustation was a special seasonal degustation that is available only on the last Sunday of each month.

The quietly elegant decor of Foveaux hides a place full of surprises and firsts, for us anyway. I never imagined that I would ever eat heart or like black pudding, but I did and even enjoyed it, revelling in its flavours. I really like how Foveaux’s head chef, Darrell Felstead, pushes the boundaries with his dishes, challenging us diners to try something different.

A few months ago, Sam told me about Moo Gourmet Burgers (rather it was his exclamations of “duck and bacon burger!!! BBQ PORK BELLY BURGER!!!” that got my attention) and ever since then, I became obsessed with them. It wasn’t until the end of December that I actually got to eat it and boy, I wasn’t disappointed. So good was my first experience that F and I actually went there not twice but three times (four for him) during the space of 3 weeks.

Iwa drew us in with its dark-coloured, contemporary fancy decor, which made it stand out from the random stores featured on the Victoria Avenue mall strip, but it was the all-you-can-eat buffet for $36.80 caught us hook, line and sinker.

The January 2010 DC challenge was hosted by Cuppy of Cuppylicious and she chose a delicious Thai-inspired recipe for Pork Satay from the book 1000 Recipes by Martha Day. The timing for this month’s challenge was perfect as I needed to provide a quick and easy side dish for our New Years Eve BBQ party.

Hi again and welcome to 2010. This year, I’m looking at a things a bit different. Everything which looks like it is impossible, will be possible. Michael Jordan once said “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying “. This year, I’m going to try and achieve my goals [...]

Last time I was here, I was with Minh and the menu was a la carte. I heard that Oscillate Wildly changed the format after that and only served a degustation menu. I’ve always wondered if the degustation was a good idea (was totally ambivalent about the change) and so it was rather exciting that I got to try it out as an early birthday dinner.

It’s been long overdue, but I finally managed to catch up with an old friend, Sam. He’d been asking me to come out to eat for a while, but the timing hasn’t been very good (terrible excuse, I know… sorry Sam!). Happily, we nominated a night where we were both free and had a pre-dinner dessert first, naturally.
