Souk in the City is a restaurant I’ve been meaning to come back to for ages, while Sisiely seems like she’s been dying to try the food here ever since she went past it one night (and it was too busy to accommodate her party for dinner). Finally, the planets and stars aligned…

Ever since a few of my friends and I had dinner at Souk in the City (what seems like) eons ago, M’s developed a soft spot for Moroccan cuisine. It’s not surprising then that she decided to have a big group dinner at a Moroccan (slash Egyptian) restaurant for her birthday.

F’s sister wanted to surprise him with a belated birthday dinner, but she wasn’t sure how I wanted to let him know about the dinner without giving away that it was for his birthday. It took me a while, but I made up some story about a small civil ceremony a friend was having and that F just had to be there because I already had RSVP’ed for two.

I’ve been bugging Dat for a catch up, as we haven’t seen each other in ages. Finally after (most probably) 6 months of trying to set up a dinner date, we manage to agree on a date and the only problem was a place. It was funny that we were tossing up between Ryo’s and Becasse… and somehow ended up here, in Surry Hills, at a Spanish tapas restaurant.

A group of friends and I travelled to New Zealand’s South Island for a week of snowboarding in August. The resort that we stayed at boasted a pretty nice looking restaurant and going by our adage of “we’re overseas, we have to eat out at least once we booked in a dinner at The Hub.

I thought I wouldn’t be able to post this up before the Merivale Winter Feast ended, but to my pleasant surprise, Merivale has announced that they will be extending the Winter Feast until the end of September due to popular demand. Yay!

I don’t find myself in Windsor all that often, but when a restaurant that’s only been opened since late last year has been getting quite a word-by-mouth praising by their customers, I thought I might pop over there and see what’s the go.

Onde is situated just off the busy main artery that is Victoria Road – a drab grey little building incongruously sitting next to a bright blue retail store. If I was a bit put off with its exterior, it did its best to welcome me with a cosy and warm interior, with a touch of modern funkiness.

I’ve been to Selah a couple of times, once for an anniversary and the other a birthday, and both times I remember the food being pretty good – especially the scallops (oh, their scallops were perfect). When I received their newsletter informing me of their new menu, it wasn’t decision of whether I should go, it was of when I should go.

Tetsuya’s reputation as one of the best restaurants for fine dining in Sydney (if not The Best Restaurant) precedes itself to even the non-foodie me of several years ago. Its reputation is further garnered by a surreptitiously covert location (behind the Judge House and big, leafy trees) and its slightly stand-offish gates… oh and not to mention meals at exorbitant prices.

On a whim, my friends and I decided to venture into the tastes of Moroccan food, having never tried it before. The restaurant was “atmospheric” (aka dimly lit hehe) and gorgeously decorated – such attention to detail! Even the toilets were pretty nice. When we were seated and perusing the menu, the manager (I think) [...]
