If there’s one thing that the Merivale group knows how to do, its how to put on a party! Neither the rain nor the GFC could keep the crowd away from the Merivale Winter Feasts Launch. The fact that the launch was open to the public and free of charge didn’t hurt matters either.

Plan B is an offshoot of Becasse, a little hole in the wall café. On our visit, we arrive shortly before 12pm but it seems the lunch time rush has already hit. We were here for the wagyu burger, but it seemed everyone else was too.

The food at Sanctuary Hotel is not too bad for pub/bar fare. The service is quick and the servings are generous. There seems to be a trend towards bistro style pub grub these days and Sanctuary is certainly jumping on this bandwagon.

Chef Mumu aka Craig Macindoe is exactly the type of person I am talking about in regards to caring about his food. He not only cooks up a fantastic lamb, but he’s passionate about his food, where it’s come from and how it gets to his restaurant. I feel at ease eating his food, because I know that the meat he uses has been prepared with the best interests of our environment in mind, also know as sustainable food.

Another year goes by and all the sudden the Easter long weekend pops up on us. Nothing beats a short week, I just wish they made weekends into three days instead of two. This year we decided to head to Hunter Valley with a few mates. I’ve been here for a few day trips but never stayed over night before. To be on the safe side, we booked a few months in advance at a self contained ‘country home’ in Pokolbin.

I’ve been to Danks St Depot for brunch before, and it’s a definate hit. But how does it stack up as a dinner venue ? especially with this new ‘early dinner club’ ? The idea in principle sounded great, so we promptly made a booking to see what kind of treats $35 would buy us.

Don’t be fooled by the name of this cafe, it’s not your average ‘health food bar’. You won’t find boring carrot juices and chicken and mayo sandwiches on white bread (nothing wrong with these mind you!). Instead, you’ll find fresh made to order food based on organic ingredients by friendly people who look like they love what they do and if not, they are doing a good job pretending.

Darling Street, Balmain – the hussle and bussle street and main thoroughfare of Balmain, is filled with boutique shops, quality restaurants and cafes and bakeries (as well as a great pastry/dessert joint *wink wink*). So as you take a stroll down this street, “which place should I try?” you ask.
Ciao Thyme is a small corner cafe a little further down Darling St, towards the water and away from the central area of Balmain.

An invitation to the media launch for the upcoming Taste of Sydney event resulted in what seemed like every Sydney based foodblogger coming out in force, I’m sure the waiters are still not sure what hit them that day! Boasting an impressive lineup of over 15 of Sydney’s hottest restaurants, the launch was an eating, drinking bash as the foods (and wines!) flowed freely.

For most people, Friday nights are reserved for meeting up with friends and drinking away the stresses of work. For me, last Friday, with the glorious weather radiating late into the night, I was confined to sorting out hundreds of food photos on my hard drive. Laboriously sifting through each of the photos and categorising it, I came across a dozen or so of pictures which as a result of frantic December, I accidentally abandoned.
