I started eatshowandtell in 2008, it was meant to be just a journal of where we ate. The first thing I usually do when I'm looking for a restaurant is check out eatability and the restaurant website. But what is usually missing is pictures of the food, how do I know I'm getting my money's worth ? This blog hopefully plugs that gap.
As with most things, one thing leads to another and we are still going after 12 months. This blog will always be a hobby and thanks to Linda, Minh, Qing and Teresa we have managed to slowly improve it over time.
Outside of this blog, I am totally obsessed with sport (especially Soccer). I support West Ham United and the Socceroos and play for a Club in the Winter season. Currently I am recovering from a total knee reconstruction, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament in April 2009.
My camera gear is nothing special, it's just a Canon 450D with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens!Publications »

This is a pretty random list. I asked each one of the crew for their favourite dish and this is what we came up with for our favourite dishes of 2009.

Now with the news of a new Japanese restaurant opening in The Rocks I was curious as to what direction it would go in. Authentic or modern? With Shaun Presland being executive chef, things are off to a good start in terms of who is in the driving seat.

With the festive season creeping onto me, I’ve been hitting the cheap eats lately. I went through a stage of visiting quite a few restaurants where I would walk away with a full stomach from a degustation but an empty wallet. In times of eating on a budget, one can always rely on the humble dumpling house.

Good food, good wine and good people. To many people, these are the essential ingredients to a good life or at least a good Friday night. Wine makers and attendees of this Kings Vault event tend to agree, after having a chat with them all at the limited time only and innovative pop up bar, Kings vault. By the way, is ‘pop up bar’ the new black ? I keep seeing this word every where.

I heard some news on the grapevine that the Pastry Chef of Pier would be leaving soon, and that her creations are something that had to be tasted before she closes up her chapter at Pier. This news was also confirmed in this months Gourmet Traveler magazine.

It’s not often I pay $47 for a lunch, but this was really worth it. To be fair, I havn’t had any lunches at a 3 Hat establishment here in Sydney but it’s fair to say I havn’t had anything which has impressed me as much as what I had here. Everything from the view, service and food was perfect.

I touched down in Singapore a day before everyone else, so I had a bit of time to explore. The first thing I did was go to Orchard Rd so I could find a shirt for the awards night. I somehow forgot to pack a shirt, so I was left with a suit and about 5 t shirts, what a disaster. Luckily my dinner was a bit more organised.

Even though we were primarily in Singapore for the Nuffnang Awards, we braved the heat and humidity and ate our way throughout Singapore as if we hadn’t eaten in two weeks. It’s a tough life, I know. We spent most our time at hawker centres.

When I saw Holy Basil open on Canley Vale Road, I wasn’t sure how well it would do. Here we have a fully decked out restaurant which wouldn’t look out-of-place on Crown St in Surry Hills. The decor is modern and moody with wood furnishings, warm lighting, shiny statues and an open kitchen. With such an authentic variety of Thai and Lao food in Fairfield,You’ve got to give them credit for having a crack at trying something different.

Some of you might of been aware that we were recently nominated in the Best Food Blog category for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific blog awards for 2009. It came as a massive shock, considering how many good food blogs there are, not only in Australia, but also in Asia. We still consider ourselves quite below the pecking order as a food blog, but who could knock back a trip to Singapore to represent Australian bloggers ?
