I started eatshowandtell in 2008, it was meant to be just a journal of where we ate. The first thing I usually do when I'm looking for a restaurant is check out eatability and the restaurant website. But what is usually missing is pictures of the food, how do I know I'm getting my money's worth ? This blog hopefully plugs that gap.
As with most things, one thing leads to another and we are still going after 12 months. This blog will always be a hobby and thanks to Linda, Minh, Qing and Teresa we have managed to slowly improve it over time.
Outside of this blog, I am totally obsessed with sport (especially Soccer). I support West Ham United and the Socceroos and play for a Club in the Winter season. Currently I am recovering from a total knee reconstruction, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament in April 2009.
My camera gear is nothing special, it's just a Canon 450D with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens!Publications »

I’d say it’s one of the best meals I’ve had in my life, but then again I’ve only really started eating Hatted and Michelin Starred food in the past two years, so what would I know ? But I must say, the thought process that must of went through the Chef’s mind for each dish is something to be admired. The effort in interpreting an idea such as a dessert into a savoury dish is something which I have rarely seen.

It’s funny how three out of my top five meals in this recent Japan trap were from non-Japanese restaurants. Picchu is certainly one of them, the fact that I traveled halfway around the world to Sapporo and spend a good ten minutes trying to find the place with the taxi driver and still walk out very happy with my meal is a testament to the food and the restaurant

I’ve been to Japan three times and I always seem to find something new to enjoy each time. The first time was in 2004, when we didn’t eat sushi or sashimi at all. I then went again in February 2009 for the Socceroos vs Japan match and I ate raw chicken and cod sperm. During [...]

Hong Kong, the land of dumplings, good shopping and acid attacks. Fortunately for us, we didn’t experience the latter. However when I picked up the paper from the bottom of my hotel room door, the first thing I saw was a front page article about acid attacks in the area we were staying in. I figured there was a higher chance of me getting hit by a car, so I soldiered on and got on with the rest of my week in Hong Kong.

Hai Au, it’s one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants for more authentic Vietnamese food. You won’t find pho or crispy skin chicken here, you’ll find crabs stir fried in tamarind sauce, caramalised fish in claypots and charcoal grilled meat and seafood. It’s worth the treck to the South West if you can’t see yourself in Vietnam anytime soon.

Hi again and welcome to 2010. This year, I’m looking at a things a bit different. Everything which looks like it is impossible, will be possible. Michael Jordan once said “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying “. This year, I’m going to try and achieve my goals [...]

We came, we ate and we gained weight. Regardless of whether this blog existed or not, we still would of eaten our way through a crap load of restaurants. Not just with the es&t crew, but with friends, family, work colleagues and even people we have met through blogging.

This is a pretty random list. I asked each one of the crew for their favourite dish and this is what we came up with for our favourite dishes of 2009.

Now with the news of a new Japanese restaurant opening in The Rocks I was curious as to what direction it would go in. Authentic or modern? With Shaun Presland being executive chef, things are off to a good start in terms of who is in the driving seat.

With the festive season creeping onto me, I’ve been hitting the cheap eats lately. I went through a stage of visiting quite a few restaurants where I would walk away with a full stomach from a degustation but an empty wallet. In times of eating on a budget, one can always rely on the humble dumpling house.

Good food, good wine and good people. To many people, these are the essential ingredients to a good life or at least a good Friday night. Wine makers and attendees of this Kings Vault event tend to agree, after having a chat with them all at the limited time only and innovative pop up bar, Kings vault. By the way, is ‘pop up bar’ the new black ? I keep seeing this word every where.
