I started eatshowandtell in 2008, it was meant to be just a journal of where we ate. The first thing I usually do when I'm looking for a restaurant is check out eatability and the restaurant website. But what is usually missing is pictures of the food, how do I know I'm getting my money's worth ? This blog hopefully plugs that gap.
As with most things, one thing leads to another and we are still going after 12 months. This blog will always be a hobby and thanks to Linda, Minh, Qing and Teresa we have managed to slowly improve it over time.
Outside of this blog, I am totally obsessed with sport (especially Soccer). I support West Ham United and the Socceroos and play for a Club in the Winter season. Currently I am recovering from a total knee reconstruction, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament in April 2009.
My camera gear is nothing special, it's just a Canon 450D with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens!Publications »

On yet another rainy night in Sydney, I find myself continuing my love affair with laotian food. Tucked away from the heart of Fairfield on Hamilton road is a charming restaurant called Star Lao. It’s one of many Lao/Thai restaurants in the area, and a favourite of my good friends Donnie and Jase. We’ve been [...]

Every now and then, a new restaurant opens in Cabramatta. Being a local, immediate doubts are cast over it. Will it succeed? Or will it end up being just another average restaurant? You see, regular visitors of Cabramatta are extremely loyal to their local eating holes. It’s not enough to be a jack of all [...]

As I move through my mid 20′s, life seems to pass by so much quicker. I remember when I first started playing soccer during the second year of Uni, I kept saying to myself that I still had 10-15 years to learn how to play the game properly and improve as a player before my [...]

It’s great to have a team off site now and then. When we are on projects, we often lose sight of the importance of taking time out and getting to know a bit more about our team members. We are so fixated on getting our deliverables completed on time or fending off office politics, that we sometimes don’t even know what the guy sitting five levels down does.

You know, sometimes having a normal barbecue just isn’t enough. This weekend we decided to make things a bit more interesting by ordering a 12kg baby pig from our local butcher. It set us back roughly $200, which is pretty good value considering it costs about $30/kg if you buy it pre-roasted from the Chinese barbecue stores. Not only is it fun, but you save a lot of money by roasting it yourself.

Right, so where do I start. I guess, Tokonoma for me is a breath of fresh air for decent modern/fusion Japanese or whatever you wan’t to call it. They nail it spot on in terms of service, ambience, design, food and drinks. It blends in perfectly with it’s sister store Toko on Crown st and is a great place to catch up with friends if you start a tab and not have to worry about the bill until the end.

I’ve only dined here once but Restaurant Arras is up there with my favourite restaurants right now. The food is inventive and creative but you can still see the traditional British influences. The restaurant is in a nice location away from the hustle and bustle of the city and it seems the Chef is quite passionate about his food and the aesthetics of his restaurant.

What is with the unpredictable Sydney weather lately ? On one day you’ll get cool’ish 19 degree days and on another you will have a 36 degree scorcher. With such fluctuating temperatures comes with fluctuating food choices. Do I fire up the bbq and knock down a few cold ones or do I warm up with a hotpot ? For Teresa’s farewell recently, we chose the latter.

After a long day walking it was a relief to be able to kick back with some good food, good views and a good coffee. The food at Megalong tea room is honest and home made style rather than modern cafe style which you expect back in Sydney. As a result, it’s a great throwback to what country style food could be like. If I’m in the area, I’ll definitely come back as this sort of comfort food is exactly what you need after a long walk in the bush.

As I move into my mid 20′s, I’m finding that I am attending more and more weddings. I would of thought that the Gen Y’s would be slowing down with the marriage business, but it seems like some things never change over time. Recently I had the privilege of attending the wedding of a very close family friend of mine. They had the ceremony at the beautiful Balmoral beach and were fortunate for the rain to hold off.
