The French cuisine is amongst the most highly regarded in the world. Deciding on a couple of dishes from millions was the most difficult task. In saying that, one thing we did want to do is aim for a couple of classics and possibly choose dishes that would challenge our cooking abilities.

Merivale has launched another promotion involving it’s highly regarded range of restaurants. One of them which seems to be attracting quite a healthy urban and chic crowd is Ash St Cellar. It is the brain child of Lauren Murdoch, serving up Spanish tapas in an outdoor street style setting with an extensive wine list.

If I was asked to name a suburb starting with B, Banksmeadow probably would be the last one I would think of. To many, it is also an unlikely destination for a very popular bakery and cafè which knows a thing or two about making good bread.

Yes, I’m the biggest groupie. After seeing the egg net salad on Masterchef, I went through a phase of “ hey it’s on Masterchef, it must be good … let’s go there! “. A week later, I find myself at Longrain and seeing Martin Boetz in the comfort of his own kitchen making copious amounts of the infamous egg net.

What’s up with Thai restaurants and funny names ? Thai-riffic, Thai-na-town, Thai-tanic and the list goes on. It seems there is an infatuation with this naming convention and it’s almost weird seeing a Thai restaurant with a normal name such as Lao Village. But of course, Lao Village is Lao and not Thai. Yet you often find the food can be quite similar, a bit like Middle eastern food.

Enter the BLT a sandwich which is found on most cafe and hotel menus. In it’s most basic form it consists of bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo. My brunch today was suppose to stop me from going out and spending $20 on food and coffee. I might have indeed saved money, but my cholesterol levels have paid for it.

It’s been freezing this week in Sydney. The sudden change of seasons has been reinforced by the cold snap which has hit us. What’s a sure fire way to keep warm ? I’d avoid the heaters and get stuck into some good comfort food, and what better comfort food is there than lasagna ?

Eating through a long weekend

The last 2 days consisted of awesome sleep-ins and then waking up to cook a big breakfast. The balcony looked over the beach and was the perfect scene for cooking and eating. Nothing beats a hearty serving of bacon and eggs washed down with a freshly brewed coffee while looking into the ocean on a sunny day.

California sushi factory is a new Japanese restaurant in Wynyard. I can’t really determine what they actually specialise in, but if there is one thing you have to try it would be their kobe beef steak rice bowl.

I’ll be honest and admit that I had not heard of what Yuletide was until this evening. I’m not sure where I failed in primary school and missed this piece of knowledge. Anyway, thanks to the wonderful Mel from Fooderati and Stewart from Whiteworks, a handful of bloggers had the opportunity to meet a few people in the Food industry as well as try the delights served by Darren Templeman at Restaurant Atelier.
