Note : Thanks to Alex in the comments he has advised that the Sugar Hit starts at 6pm!
Slightly overwhelmed by the choices at hand of where to go for our Sugar Hit, I remembered that the Sugar Hit at The Westin last year was pretty decent and the wild rice pudding sounded really interesting. I can’t remember the last time I had rice pudding, let alone wild rice pudding, so I figured it’d be a different and, hopefully, tasty experience.
I was surprised but amused to see they used the same glass from last year! Hehe. Anywho… at first bite, it wasn’t as sweet as I expected it to be and I think I was kind of thrown off a little because of that. Tsk, I know… bad food blogger. In hindsight though, it was pretty darn delicious. I know F thought so – he adored this dessert.
The wild rice pudding was pretty smooth and creamy with a nicely balanced flavouring of cinnamon throughout, though I did find myself chewing on a solid grain of rice now and again (that’s normal, right?). The rhubarb and cranberry jam paired really well with the wild rice pudding, adding slightly sweet and sour tones to its creaminess.
I really liked the poached blueberry meringue, as it added a lot more sweetness to the overall dessert, and its fluffiness was heavenly – a nice contrast to the slightly dense pudding. The blueberries themselves were slightly sour and burst opened with satisfying juiciness. The crispy sesame cracker added a nice, slightly savoury, crunchy texture to the dessert.
The wild rice pudding was paired with Brown Brother’s wonderfully sweet Orange Muscat and Flora. I adore the Orange Muscat and Flora, as I find it goes down rather easily (perhaps a bit too easily), and I found its sweetness to be a nice contrast to the creamy dessert.
I think I’d like to go back for research purposes to, you know, just confirm how tasty it was.
The Westin staff informed me when I had called to make a booking that they no longer take reservations and that they start their Sugar Hits at 2pm. I hope this is true, as I remember a friend and I went during our lunch break a couple of years back, only to have a puzzled wait staff tell us that their Sugar Hits start at 9pm.

That looks delicious to me… I think I need a sugar hit right about now. And I guess while I’m here…
I’m a food science student conducting a research survey on the purchase of specialty food products. Feel free to help me fill out my short 8 min research survey. It’s completely voluntary.

Gorgeous photos! And hehe I notice the glasses etc too and would comment if they used the same one. Maybe it’s a food blogger thing
I’m in for the Muscat
I know that friend! He was not happy Jan!
That looks remarkably similar to last year’s offering by the Westin – more than just the glass! :S
Foodieguy: I did your survey =) Hope you get 150 respondents!
Lorraine @NotQuiteNigella: Thanks =) Haha perhaps
Fiona: I so totally heart the muscat =))
poptart: LOL… actually that’s what I thought, but pinned the desserts looking the same on them using the same glass.
the basic formula is there: grain and cream bottom, gelatinous layer with berries, scoop of whipped something, garnish on top! bam!
Just rang The Westin to find out if it really does run from 2pm. I was advised that it starts from 6pm.
I almost went to the Westin last night for Sugar Hit. This looks delicious!
poptart: lol true true…
Alex Lim: Thanks for confirming Alex!
Zina @ tastedbytwo: Hehe did you end up going elsewhere?
