Holy Basil, Canley Heights
When I saw Holy Basil open on Canley Vale Road, I wasn’t sure how well it would do. Here we have a fully decked out restaurant which wouldn’t look out-of-place on Crown St in Surry Hills. The decor is modern and moody with wood furnishings, warm lighting, shiny statues and an open kitchen. With such an authentic variety of Thai and Lao food in Fairfield,You’ve got to give them credit for having a crack at trying something different.
Singapore, Nuffnang Blog Awards
Some of you might of been aware that we were recently nominated in the Best Food Blog category for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific blog awards for 2009. It came as a massive shock, considering how many good food blogs there are, not only in Australia, but also in Asia. We still consider ourselves quite below the pecking order as a food blog, but who could knock back a trip to Singapore to represent Australian bloggers ?
Daring Baker’s Challenge: Macaron
With such traumatic experiences, you can understand why I was so hesitant in dipping my toes into such a challenge again. Alas, it is the nature of the DBC, over coming your fears, creating things you’d never thought possible and learning from your mistakes.
AFK, BRB
Or perhaps it’s more apt to say OOC (Out Of Country?).
Thank you to everyone who voted for us in the Nuffnang Awards! It’s hard to believe that it’s the 23rd of October already and that the results are all being announced tonight at the Asia-Pacific Blog Awards!
SIFF Sugar Hit 2009: Tony Bilson’s Number One, Sydney
In fond rememberance of Onde’s pear and frangipani tart, I thought I should see how well Tony Bilson’s Number One’s version stacked up.
SIFF Let’s Do Lunch 2009: Sean’s Kitchen
While this month’s Let’s Do Lunch offerings are more than enticing, being situated just outside of the CBD means that the majority of these lunches are simply just too far away for me. Scanning through the list of restaurants I narrowed my list down to restaurants in the immediate vicinity and settled on Sean’s Kitchen and their “7 Deadly Sins”.
SIFF Sugar Hit 2009: Shangri La Hotel
We had just finished our meal at the Night Noodle Markets, when Kathness somehow managed to get us a booking for 8 people just 1 hour before the Shangri La Sugar Hit would start. I didn’t hold much hope for a table as a few hotels have been booked out for their Sugar Hit sessions. As the night was young, I couldn’t knock back an opportunity to increase my blood sugar levels.
