The Leaning Tower of Zumbo

Not another Adriano Zumbo post ?

Fear not, I am not going to describe every cake and macaron into microscopic details. But for those of who you who are unaware of what I am on about, Adriano Zumbo usually needs no introduction as it seems every food blogger, man and his dog has visited this store atleast once. If you havn’t, perhaps you should give it a go as his creations are quite special.

The purpose of my recent visit was not to blog about this place, but to pick up a birthday cake for Linda. Due to the delivery guy being late, I had no choice but to do a little bit of window shopping in Zumbo’s cabinets. Well, that didn’t work out too well as I bought a few things to take home. I guess you can’t visit Adriano Zumbo without taking a few treats home, even if it’s one too many.

Macarons ($1.80)

I believe there is nothing new with the maracons I purchased, but the sticky date one is probably my favourite.

I started taking some photos and I was going to do them one  by one and describe them. I then thought this would be pretty boring, so I tried to see how many macarons I could stack without breaking them.

I started off with five, which wasn’t too bad. My main concern was the earl grey tea macaron at the bottom. Along with the sticky date macaron, it’s one of my favourites of Adriano’s offerings and I didn’t want it to break.

I decided to take a risk and try stacking six of them up ….

The Leaning Tower of Zumbo

And there you have it, The Leaning Tower of Zumbo. For the record, I ended up knocking it down by accident with the lens of my camera and the orange macaron came off second best.

Have a chat, kai!

This is my favourite cake because it has lychee, which is a fruit I have a soft spot for every time.  This baby is filled with coconut dacquoise, lychee jelly, coconut mousse, coconut crunch, strawberries and lychees.

Dr Apple ($7.70)

The Dr Apple consists of pistachio dacqouise, apple cider jelly, vanilla creme, calvados cooked apples, green apple mousse. It’s quite a refreshing cake  and not as sweet as the others.

Chocolates

I had some change left and purchased three chocolates which I have never tried. From the top we have the hot cross bun and at the bottom the fried egg. For the life of me I cannot remember what the third one was. The gold fish memory is kicking in, I’m definately in a mid life crisis.

Nice gimmick! Good work for getting all 6 macaroons stacked :)

I have the feeling that I’m about the only blogger that has not gone there before. I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m in the area.

Maybe you could skewer the macarons and make a macaron kebab – they’re probably too delicate but hey, you’re going to eat them anyway… And the log-shaped chocolate is Gianduja.

We started eatshowandtell in 2008, it was meant to be just a journal of where we ate. The first thing I usually do when I'm looking for a restaurant is check out eatability and the restaurant website. But what is usually missing is pictures of the food, how do I know I'm getting what I expect? This blog hopefully plugs that gap.
