Quite the contrary, nothing can compare with Din Tai Fung. I found this restaurant rather dirty. Is it worth the risk for mediocre xiao long bao’s? I think not.

Been here a few times, always good food and very authentic, though I’d be wary of going again since its on the Food Authority’s name and shame list (5 penalties!!!)

I love the Little Shanghai area in Ashfield! The place next door is good (although it has received some food violations from the Dept of health) and the Taste of Shanghai across the road was quite packed when we went. I think there are more the further west you walk down the road although they look a bit empty. Nothing beats Shanghai Night's dumplings though! Lorraine E’s last blog post..Jam Donut Cupcakes

Arwen : Come to think of it, I think they did spread pieces of fat into the kebabs I had in China. Luckily they don't do that here! Simon : Yep I've tried the one next door too. They are pretty close in terms of taste and value, these days I just goto the one which has the smaller queue! FFichiban : You definitely need to come here and give it a try. In saying that, there's a few of these in Chinatown/Haymarket as well if the trip to Ashfield is a bit bothersome. belle : DTF Definitely looks nicer, they all look so perfect! lol @ teapots, I find it strange but hilarious that it has the address of some other place on it. Wish I could read Chinese so I can figure out what it actually says on it.

DTF's dumplings look nicer, but taste more ordinary, if you know what I mean. And there must have been a closing down sale at that Yagoona restaurant - I've seen the same teapots at two other different places! belle’s last blog post..Best wishes for 2009!

i have to agree with you. shanghai wins over overpriced din tai fung in value and taste i think. have you ever tried the one next door to shanghai? i’ve heard it’s good too.
