If you’ve read our earlier post on Selah, I raved on about the food and dessert (naturally) there. Knowing how much I love Selah, my friend booked a table for 3 and (not soon enough!) we were seated back at this favourite restaurant of mine.

Sourdough Bread with Olive Oil and Balsamic
While I’m never sure whether I like eating sourdough bread, I do find it interesting to eat. I have a confession to make: I’m actually not very good at the whole dipping bread into olive oil and balsamic vinegar thing – I always seem to get oil and never balsamic. My friend told me to just firmly dab the bread into the dish, but when I did that I realised I did it too firmly and my piece of bread had soaked up all the balsamic, leaving none for the rest of the bread (luckily there was only one left, but I felt so bad still). I’m such a dork.

Blue Eye Trevalla Fillet with Leek & Crab Ravioli, Broccolini & Crab Veloute
The fillet was nicely cooked – quite succulent and almost flake-y – and it went really well with the sauce and vegetables. Sam and Ram thought it went really, really well with the Pinot Gringo served with the dish. I think the weakest part of this dish was the crab ravioli, which kind of didn’t leave any impression at all: it wasn’t good nor bad.

Tasting Plate: Chocolate Espresso Cake, Spiced Orange Pannacotta, Chocolate Sable $15
Both Sam and I have (quite notoriously) a sweet tooth, which meant we had to have dessert (actually it was much to the insistence of Ram because we were getting full by this stage). My favourite of the tasting plate had to be the spiced orange pannacotta, which was followed by the chocolate espresso cake. I normally don’t like coffee, but the cake was quite good!

Selah Bombe with Macadamia Praline Parfait, Sponge, Burnt Meringue & Raspberry $15
Several bombes had been passing us by during lunch, reminding Ram of how much he loved it and made him wanted one quite badly. Interestingly, this one tasted a bit different to the one we had last time. The alcoholic taste that kind of put me off last time wasn’t present in this dish at all, which still puzzles me. I liked it a lot better this time around, as I could appreciate the flavours a lot better.
It was Sam’s first time at Selah and I really wanted it to be a good experience for him, but truthfully, I felt their selection for Let’s Do Lunch could have been better. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but the dishes I had last time were truly spectacular (the scallops!). I’m quite sure it wasn’t a once-off thing, as I heard from a friend who’s been very recently that they were impressed by the food.
