Danks St Depot, Waterloo

As quoted on the website “We believe our Cafe is the best environment in which to enjoy wonderful food, drinks & service”, I would completely agree with this since for the past 5 weekends, there has only been ONE weekend I did not dine at Danks St. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day so this place suits me perfectly when various breakfast items are also served for lunch as brekky finishes at 11am (too early I say!).

I have dined at Danks St a few times before and only found the food quite average (as in “It wasn’t too bad however I wouldn’t come back soon.”) It was not until I discovered the following 2 things that my obsession with Danks St began…

A BOWL of skim hot chocolate
I LOVE this *bowl* concept because I feel like I drinking soup. AND there’s never ending hot chocolate since it is quite a large serving! The hot chocolate is unlike the usual powdered hot chocolate you get at some other places. It has a real chocolatey flavour to it and it’s not too sweet. Just right…

Creamed Eggs with Roasted Mushroom and truffle oil
2 eggs cooked with cream and butter, served soft with chopped chives, truffle oil, roasted field mushroom and tomato

These are probably the BEST tasting scrambled eggs I’ve ever had. (And that’s a pretty big call!) I am also a huge fan of truffles. Anything with “truffle” in it, I will order with no hesitation.

I highly recommended you try both of these. Other items are not too bad either (as I’ve been told) but not as good as the creamed eggs.

Service is a hit and miss. Saturday is relatively cheery but I think it’s the big saturday nights that let the staff down on the sundays.

Danks St is opened for breakfast and lunch every day and dinner only on thursday, friday and saturday.
