Iron Chef, Cabramatta

Where have we been? Like most blogs, it seemed eatshowandtell was destined to be lost forever and neglected. But fear not, I have a backlog of interesting posts waiting to be posted!

And what better way to get the ball rolling again with Yum Cha at our local joint Iron Chef.

Prawn and Chive dumplings

What makes these great is the freshness of the prawn and chives. It will leave your breath a little less than desirable, but you have to make sacrifices when enjoying yum cha.

Siu Mai dumplings

No yum cha is complete without siu mai and chicken feet (which we missed out on)

To be honest I can’t remember exactly what this is called. But the content and flavour of this was intriguing. Inside you have char sui, chicken and chinese mushroom which is wrapped with a piece of thin tofu. There was plenty of juice as well which made this dish not too dry, I was impressed.

Siu Lung Bao

As you might be able to tell from the photo, alot of the soup inside this dumpling ended up in the bamboo basket. Unfortunately this was overcooked which defeats the purpose of it as you are meant to drink the soup inside the dumpling before eating the dumpling itself. A shame really because the dumpling itself was upto standard.

Pippies in Xo Sauce

Sweet and fresh. Unlike other places, Iron Chef gets the right balance of flavour and saltyness with this dish. Alot of places tend to make this dish too salty and as a result sends my hypertension levels into cardiac arrest.

Salt and Pepper squid

Tender squid which is lightly battered and fried with pieces of chilli and shallots, a favourite of of ours without doubt.

Egg Tarts

We finish off with some freshly baked egg tarts. Still warm and soft, this makes a great end to our trip to Iron Chef.

We started eatshowandtell in 2008, it was meant to be just a journal of where we ate. The first thing I usually do when I'm looking for a restaurant is check out eatability and the restaurant website. But what is usually missing is pictures of the food, how do I know I'm getting what I expect? This blog hopefully plugs that gap.
