Sushi Suma, Redfern

Sushi Suma is a favourite of ours with its fresh and tasty array of affordable Japanese cuisine.

It’s 5:45 pm on a Saturday night and there already 6 people lined up waiting for a seat. We are among those 6 people, and by 6:15 pm the entire restaurant is full with hungry patrons.

agedashi tofu 5 pieces $6.80

If you come to Sushi Suma you must try this. Hot and crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. This is a agedashi tofu at its finest. The tofu is layered on top of a generous layer of warm broth and topped with finely chopped spring onions and grated daikon.

Salmon Sashimi Main $16.80

Absolutely delicious. You definitely get what you pay for here in terms of quality and quantity. The salmon was fresh and cut with precision and care. It was accompanied with portions of seaweed and carrot and of course wasabi.

California Roll 10 pieces $10.80

We usually don’t get sushi when we have main meals but you can’t go wrong with the California rolls here. I think the secret here is the Japanese mayonnaise and the fact that the rolls are made fresh in front of your eyes at the time of order. It’s contents contain your standard array of tofu, cucumber, crab stick and avocado. It’s simple, but they do it so well here at Sushi Suma.

Chicken Teriyaki $12.80

Without a doubt one of my favourites here at Sushi Suma. Not only are the servings huge, the chicken thighs are tender and moist. The teriyaki marinade is also to die for. The addition of chopped cabbage and carrot provides a nice balance to the powerful flavours of the chicken.

What can I say, Sushi Suma is the type of place where there is never short of people lining up for dinner. It’s combination of fresh and quality dishes and very generous prices and servings make it a favourite for many Japanese food lovers.

We started eatshowandtell in 2008, it was meant to be just a journal of where we ate. The first thing I usually do when I'm looking for a restaurant is check out eatability and the restaurant website. But what is usually missing is pictures of the food, how do I know I'm getting what I expect? This blog hopefully plugs that gap.
