Angel Restaurant @ Freshwater

Saturday was a GREAT day for the beach, so we took a trip to Freshwater for some sand and water.
With our tummies grumbling all the way to the beach, we decided to have some lunch before becoming beached whales. Luckily we went the long way to Freshwater or else we wouldn’t have decided to drop by such a nice and relaxing restaurant. After stalking around the restaurant for a bit, our hunger decided for us. I was keen for breakfast but it was already 12-ish so it was finished. So lunch it was! I was even more captived by this place I was even more excited when I saw a sign outside saying they served Toby’s Estate coffee! MMMM YUM!
Angel is set in a heritage building/house overlooking Freshwater beach. The view would be great if you can get a table at the back of the restaurant. Sadly it was full so we sat inside. I love these restaurants with so much character. Wooden tables, open windows, heritage listed building, great art murals hanging around the walls… just wonderful.
Since it was still early in the day, we ordered 2 light meals. I ordered the Roaster Corn Cakes served with green leaves, tomato relish and roasted butternut pumpkin (you can choose this or bacon – not a fan of bacon). J ordered bruschetta.
When our meals arrived, we were surprised by the presentation. It looked wonderful! The serving of bruschetta was way bigger than we thought it would be. 3 servings for only $10! J said it was probably the best priced and tastiest bruschetta he’s had. The tomato flavour was just right, just enough onion, nice drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and crunchy sourdough.
My corn cakes looked like a piece of art. I was praying it tasted as good as it looked. “MMMM YUMMM”, I thought as I devoured each bite of the corn cake+pumpkin+tomato relish. At some other cafes/restaurants, the corn fritters never have enough corn (except for Bills). These corn cakes were full of corn! As much as I love the corn fritters at Bills, these corn cakes tasted a lot better in its own little way.
By the end of our meals, we were very satisfied. Luckily it’s just a short stroll down to the beach. I love these great surprise finds!
Enjoy!
